Côte D’Ivoire

In March of 2008, I visited Côte D’Ivoire to learn more about the threat to child survival caused by the lack of access to clean drinking water. My visit coincided with World Water Week and gave me the opportunity to advocate for UNICEF’s Tap Project, an annual campaign that celebrates the availability of free tap water in the United States, while at the same time raises funds to provide safe drinking water for children in other parts of the world, including West Africa.

Today, UNICEF continues to work in six regions of Côte D’Ivoire and in poor neighborhoods of the largest city, Abidjan, improving water supply and sanitation facilities to promote safe hygiene practices in schools, health centers and communities.
